Car Rust on the undercarriage of vehicles must first be thoroughly cleaned of any grease, oil, mud or other contaminants that may affect the performance of the Rust Primer. Engine cleaners work well to cut grease and can be easily applied with a low-pressure pesticide sprayer.
Safety: Be sure to wear protective goggles, chemical gloves and rain-gear to protect keep chemicals from your eyes and skin.
Be Green: Never use engine cleaners in any location other than at a self-service car wash that recycles their waste water. Be sure to check with management before using chemicals.
Car Rust treatment washing procedure:
- High-pressure wash the underside of the car.
- Often chemicals provided by the car-wash are adequate to clean the underside of the car. Many offer engine cleaner as an option. Thoroughly wash the underside of the car.
- Spray on engine cleaner and wait 10 minutes. Then rinse.
- Repeat as necessary.
- Allow the vehicle to completely dry before applying Rust Attack. Do not drive more than a few miles if necessary to avoid contamination of the surface.
Rust Removal – Rust Abatement
- Use a wire brush and scraper to remove thick corrosion.
- Do not use a grinder that may cause dangerous sparks that could ignite gas fumes.
Be Green: Always use a large tarp under the vehicle to capture scrapings and dust. We recommend a tarp larger than the vehicle. Simply drive over the tarp and drive off when the scraping is finished. Sweep the debris and dispose property.
Applying Rust Primer by Rust Attack
Brush Application: Use a brush to apply the material. Apply heavy coats, especially on thicker rust. Make sure that you have a small container to dip the brush into.
Spray Application: If you have access to a lift or ramps, an autobody paint sprayer may be used. Warning: Always put the car in park, apply the parking brake and block the wheels with strong block wedges to prevent the car from rolling. Be careful to mask all parts that you do not want sprayed. Be careful to let the car cool before applying the product or masking.
Important: Always thoroughly mix the material prior to use. Pour only small amounts of material at a time. Never pour the material back into the Rust Attack container. This will contaminate the product and it will no longer be effective.
Apply 3-4 coats allowing complete drying between coats. Dry time may vary depending on temperature and humidity conditions.
Wait 48 hours before the application of undercarriage coatings over the Rust Primer. Rust Attack may be left as a protective coating for autobody undercarriages.
